How to start taking an action?

Someone once told me you need a bigger purpose to change your behaviour. One might feel a lot of energy to change a behaviour. For example, for me, it was hard to change my eating behaviour and not until that day that my doctor told me to lose weight for health reasons.

Another example is probably my father. He gradually developed a habit of smoking. It begin as a social activity but by the time he realised, it has developed into a habit. Not until one day his doctor told him that if he continues smoking, he does not have an option of transplant.

The ancestor of every action is a thought.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

I can think about starting something for a long time. Not until I determine to put that into action, nothing get started. It takes a lot of energy and courage to start that first step.

You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.

Zig Zagler

Take action.

Every story you’ve ever connected with, every leader you’ve ever admired, every puny little thing that you’ve ever accomplished is the result of taking action.

You have a choice.

You can either be a passive victim of circumstance or you can be the active hero of your own life.

Bradley Whitford

Taking an action is a choice. It is easier to stay where you are and how you are. It might have become your comfortable zone because you are use to it. It is harder to move out of that zone because it takes energy and effort for you to make it your next comfortable zone. This is called growth.

I met with a friend last night. We discussed about our growth since we met which was 12 months ago. I honestly told her that I couldn’t imagine I will be like this 12 months ago. She shared her impression about me from 12 months ago.
“When I met you [12 months ago], you were a little girl. Now, I think you are matured.”

I thought about it and I agreed with her. I don’t know whether it’s called mature but I feel grounded, standing steadily. I know who I am and know how to expand my boundaries.

What did I do to take this action?

  1. I wanted to move forward.
  2. I courageously did one little thing that was different to my usual routine when an opportunity arose.
  3. I allow things to unfold in front of my eyes.
  4. I reflected and evaluated where I am.
  5. I opened my mind and search for opportunities.
  6. I tried anything when opportunities arose.

I enjoyed this changing journey. These processes make me feel that I am continuously evolving to a better self. As long as I want to grow, there’s no limit to my growth.

Can you feel your growth?
Are you courageously taking a step forward?
Are you an active hero?
