Who determines value of my life?

I was having a chat with a friend. She knows me since I was in high school so she knows my goods and bads. However, I struggled to understand her and I question how much she knows about me. May be I am seeking for external validation again? Probably, it’s time to question this again.

Following is our conversation.
Friend: You never hardly push yourself to the limit do you?
Me: What do you mean?
Friend: Well, you just quickly go to sleep when you feel a bit unwell right?
Me: I guess so.
Friend: That’s what I mean. You never push yourself when you’re sick.

Part of me was feeling “that’s common sense” because it is called “self-care”. The other part of me was feeling a bit insulted by her statement. So, I replied:
Me: Well, I do push myself to some extend.
Friend: Really? because all I see is you are sleeping all the time so I don’t know whether you’re sick or you’re just sleeping.

Effective health care depends on self-care; this fact is currently heralded as if it was a discovery…

Ivan Illich

I was shocked by her statement. Indeed, I love sleeping. Today I am not here to ask for external validation but I was shocked someone judged my behaviour without knowing much about me. Then, I was shocked that I was shocked about her comment.

You alone are enough.

You have nothing to prove to anyone.

Maya Angelou

This is the time that I would like to strengthen my relationship with myself again. To have time out for myself, having that deep conversation with myself. I will not allow others to determine values of my life. Only I can determine the true value in my life.

Talk to yourself like you would to someone you love.

Brene Brown

Who are you allowing to determine your life?
Are you giving yourself power to determine your value?
When was the last time you spoke with yourself?
